MotoGP Americas GP: Vinales recovers from 11th to win, Marquez crashes from lead
Since the beginning of the 2021 season, Maverick Vinales had not won a grand prix race until his split with Yamaha. However, he triumphed in the sprints in Portugal and Austin. Despite dropping to 11th from pole position at the Americas GP, Vinales fought back and won by 1.728s, becoming the first rider in modern MotoGP era to win for three different manufacturers. Vinales beat rookie Pedro Acosta, while Enea Bastianini overtook Jorge Martin for a podium finish. Francesco Bagnaia finished fifth, and Marc Marquez crashed out of the lead on lap 11. Acosta took the lead early on, with Martin making aggressive moves to climb to second. Vinales found himself in the midst of on-track action, but eventually overtook Acosta on lap 13 to seal the victory.
